A 400 LEVEL STUDENT UNILORIN COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER TWO FAILED ATTEMPTS
A 26-year-old student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Elijah Jude Anuolawapo, has reportedly committed suicide by taking illicit drug substances.
It was gathered that the 400 Level student of English Language, popularly known as Jude, died on Thursday morning, August 26, at the hospital where he was rushed by his colleagues for medical attention.
According to report, he had unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide on two occasions due to alleged rejection by members of his immediate family after the reported death of his mother.
A close friend of the deceased who spoke to Tribune said, "His father had abandoned his mother since she was carrying Jude's pregnancy which later led to his mother's death out of depression."
Jude was raised by his maternal grandmother who died of cancer complications last year. The development had become the main factor that had given him severe depression and frustration and made him attempt surcide twice before the last one that later led to his death.
Jude was a very brilliant student and even one of the very best with mastery of languages in the whole of the university campus. Many of us pleaded with him and even referred him to the school counselling unit after the second unsuccessful attempt which was about three weeks ago.
It came to our surprise that he later proceeded with another attempt around 8:15 Wednesday evening. We actually tried to save his life as usual, but to no avail, as he finally gave up the ghost earlier today in the hospital. If he didn't die, he should have been one of the very best writers of the next generation."

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
MENTAL ILLNESS IS REAL BUT SUICIDE IS NOT THE ANSWER
Life has its own twists and turns and it doesn’t always treat us kindly. There are events that we encounter as we journey forth - at times they come with pain and sorrow that we must bear within us.
In the heat of the moment it is easy for one to insinuate that the world has turned its back on them - it is easy to say ‘why me?’ Perhaps the problem is that as human beings we tend to think that life owes us something and that we deserve only the finer things life has to offer.
We all go through so many hardships in life. And it is not easy to fight back either. But is suicide an option?
I have found out that frustration is the major reason for suicidal actions. Frustration as we know is a state of hopelessness.
“Tomorrow is pregnant for everyone. To some, it may deliver twins, to others triplets or singleton.”
Many have taken their lives because they were jilted in a relationship. Some chose the option as a result of losses: loss of the loved ones, loss of money.
Humiliation and stigmatization are other reasons for suicide.
Martin Luther King once said: “Pain, loss, tragedy, setbacks, sorrow and tears will always be a part of our lives and together they determine the people we will turn out to be tomorrow.” Regardless of how bad it may hurt to go through these circumstances, they all pass away with time.
Always check on your loved ones.
Suicide is never an option.
