Significance Of Kola Nut


In Nigeria it is called different names by different tribes. Igbo people called it "Ojí."

There are different kinds of kolanut, the four sided kolanut has spiritual significances and is used by local priests to make chants during sacrifices.

In Igbo culture, it is ceremonially used to entertain guests and welcome visitors.


Kola nut basically symbolizes peace, unity, reconciliation, integrity, life, fraternity, hospitality, goodwill and kindness. Presentation of the revered fruit however differs in Igbo communities as in some places, it is accompanied with money no matter how little, or white chalk (nzu).
