PASTOR CHRIS OKOTIE CONTROVERSIAL INSTAGRAM POST

Some Nigerians were reacting to one post from one social media handle credited to the founder of the Household of God International Ministries, Pastor Chris Okotie where he posted one strong statement that talked about the vengeance of God on the enemies of the church.

The statement on his social media account said "Hebrews 11:3.. Sit at my
right hand until I make your enemies
your footstool (Hupopodion/Greek)

The wizard at Endor who assumed the title Emmanuel, has been consumed by divine indignation. And now his disciples bewail his ignominious exit. No marvel, one third of God's angels followed the disgraced anointed cherub Lucifer!!

Jehovah-Jesus our mighty gladiator has broken the head of the dragon with his mighty blows. He has descended from the mountain of spices with the fiery sword of his indignation. Glorious in his apparel and traveling in the greatness of his strength, he goes conquering and to conquer the adversaries of his church

Let those who swear by the Lord and by Malcham and the descendants of Haman, now tremble in fear. The day of the vengeance of our God has fully come to Nigeria. And they shall not escape Operation Hupopodion (footstool) has commenced

More Power To You !!!"

Although this person did not mention any name, the above statement came few days after the death of popular Nigerian Preacher, Televangelist, and founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua, but the pastor was one of the strong critics of the late TB Joshua and his unusual way of fellowship when he was alive.

What Triggered People's Thought

Most of the known Nigerian pastors didn't react to TB Joshua death openly.

The only reference to TB Joshua on the post was when he said: "The wizard of Endor that assumed the title of Emmanuel has been consumed by divine anger. And now his disciples are mourning his disgraceful exit."

It wasn't hard for Nigerians to assume who he was referring to because of the slogan of TB Joshua church "Emmanuel."

Pastor TB Joshua death came as a shock to most Nigerians and people from around the globe. Wishes and condolences kept pouring in for the late sage albeit with less effect compared to those that should have come from his own calibre of ministers with whom he shared an international stage with. If I wasn't dumbfounded myself, then....

Why People Thought So

One of the strongest critics that came out boldly to talk about his ways when he was alive was Pastor Chris Okotie.

In 2017, Chris Okotie, accused Pastor Joshua of "shamanist practices." But Nigeria former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, close friend of late TB Joshua told Okotie to stop attacking Joshua and called for unity inside the church.

Why The Silence From The Christian Community?

Christian critics often referred to TB Joshua unorthodox methods with notions it's not confirmed in the Bible.

TB also was controversial based on his teachings and practices. Some people were criticising, because of the large number of alleged miracles that took place in his church/meetings.

As many people across the globe/world are mourning the death of TB Joshua, who died at the age of 57, the Christian body for Nigeria were silent on his death even though he struggled to be accepted within their circles.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have described him as an "impostor" who belonged to a group of "occults" that infiltrated Christianity.

Infact, SCOAN is not part of PFN which is umbrella association of Nigerian Pentecostal Churches, they did not accept the Synagogue Church to be part of them.

But some people were of the opinion that Pastor Joshua was a true picture of christian leader because of his numerous humanitarian acts, while some feel he is not different from the other televangelists that has been holding so many Nigerians in their grip with their "prosperity messages" since the early 1990s.

Most of them were more dramatic and  performed the same "miracles," but Pastor T.B Joshua who was until his demise, the head of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) - was not part of this clique.

Maybe because in the words of Abimbola Adelakun, Assistant Professor of the African Studies Department in the University of Texas - "He is rough. He is crude. His methods were unorthodox."

The last is yet to be heard of this issue. T.B Joshua's death just happened to have revealed to the public the unspoken enemity that sometimes exist between men of God and the extent to which it could be taken.

Nevertheless, it is good we recall the infamous line from the Holy Grail the reason why Christians were even called Christians in the very first place - Christ-like.
