Osasuna ended their six-game winless run in LaLiga on Jagoba Arrasate's return to El Sadar as Ante Budimir's fourth successful penalty of the season secured a 2-0 home win over Racing Santander.

Despite their poor form going into the game, Osasuna started on the front foot as Racing struggled to cope with an intense opening in Pamplona.

Jonathan Dubasin thought he had put the hosts ahead when he stabbed home from barely a yard out after the visitors failed to clear a corner, but his scrappy effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

Arrasate’s side did not have to wait much longer to break the deadlock, however, as Jeanuel Belocian brought down Budimir inside the box and the Croatian calmly rolled in the penalty for his seventh goal of the season after just nine minutes.

The game settled after Budimir’s opener, with Santander growing into it, but they failed to test Aitor Fernandez before the break.

Osasuna took control again after the restart in search of a second goal to kill the game, but Budimir could only find the side-netting from a tight angle.

That failure to extend their lead kept Racing in the contest, but Jose Lopez's side laboured in attack, with Sergio Canales only managing a routine save from Fernandez from 25 yards just after the hour.

Racing largely failed to trouble the hosts, who wrapped up the points in the 88th minute through Asier Osambela, with the substitute slamming in his first goal of the season after Julen Agirrezabala had blocked Inigo Arguibide's drive.

The timely return to winning ways lifts Los Rojillos up to ninth, while Racing remain 16th, with their winless run now stretched to four matches.

It was one-way traffic at El Sadar, with Osasuna controlling the contest for large periods and limiting Racing to just one shot on target. Budimir's opener set the tone for a dominant display that was finally rewarded with a second goal late on.
