Manchester United face fitness concerns ahead of Champions League trip to Como, with key players missing training...

Manchester United’s preparations for their UEFA Champions League clash against Como took a hit on Tuesday morning, as several important first-team players were absent from training at Carrington.

Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martínez, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw all missed the session, according to reports from the training ground. Ayden Heaven was also absent due to illness, while longer-term absentees Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu remained sidelined. Leny Yoro is suspended and unavailable for the match.

Manager Michael Carrick oversaw a light final session as the squad prepared to travel to Italy for Wednesday’s game at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia (kick-off 5:45pm UK time). United sit 13th in the Champions League league-phase table with three points from their opening two matches, level on points with 12th-placed Como.

The Individual Situations

Marcus Rashford has been managing a hip issue. The club have been careful with his workload, and he did not feature in Tuesday’s training.

Lisandro Martínez came off at half-time in the weekend 1-1 draw at Leeds with a knock and was not seen at Carrington.

Kobbie Mainoo has been dealing with a minor injury that also kept him out of recent games against Atlético Madrid and Leeds.

Luke Shaw continues to struggle with fitness problems. The left-back has already missed multiple games this season and has been absent from training again after featuring in the draw with Tottenham a fortnight earlier.

United sources indicated that final decisions on the availability of these players would be made later on Tuesday, with the possibility that some could still join the travelling party after late checks. However, several absences appear likely, which would further stretch Carrick’s defensive and midfield options.

Como, managed by Cesc Fàbregas, have made a solid start to their first Champions League campaign and will present a tough test on home soil by Lake Como. United, still searching for consistency under Carrick, will need to dig deep if key figures remain unavailable.

The Red Devils have shown improved performances in recent outings, but a depleted squad against an organised Italian side raises the stakes. Carrick may have to lean on academy or fringe players and adapt his selection accordingly.

As the squad prepares to fly out, the focus remains on who can recover in time and how Carrick navigates the absences. A positive result in Italy would provide a much-needed boost in the Champions League table and ease some of the pressure building around the team’s early-season form.

United fans will be hoping at least some of the missing players can force their way into contention before kick-off.
