Brewers Vs Rays World Series Set After Tampa Bay Downs Cleveland
The Cleveland Guardians refused to quit, but Junior Caminero's foul-pole blast and Yandy Diaz's late dagger proved too much, as the Tampa Bay Rays closed out the ALCS and set up a historic World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers where a first-time champion is guaranteed.

The Tampa Bay Rays have won two games in a row heading into Monday, and fuelled by another big offensive showing, they've booked their spot in the World Series where they'll face the Milwaukee Brewers.
The ALCS was tightly contested through five games, but entering Game 6 the Tampa Bay Rays had two chances to wrap up the series and secure their first World Series appearance since 2020, while the Cleveland Guardians were fighting to stay alive.
It was the second time this series the Rays could hand the ball to an ace, with Freddy Peralta getting the nod against bullpen opener Shawn Armstrong. Both pitchers held their own early, Armstrong tossing a scoreless first inning, but it was Peralta who truly shone, following up the strong work of Nick Martinez and Drew Rasmussen.
Backed by that performance on the mound, Tampa Bay wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. They struck early again, pushing across two runs in the second on Richie Palacios' two-run double.

Staying true to their postseason formula, the Rays added on quickly again, finding the scoreboard in the bottom of the third to push a decisive Game 7 even further from the Guardians' reach.
This time it was Jonny DeLuca who came through, lifting a sacrifice fly to bring home Junior Caminero and stretch Tampa Bay's lead to 3-0 behind what has arguably been their best arm over the last two months.

The Guardians aren't a team to go quietly, though. They already rallied from 2-0 down against the Chicago White Sox in the ALDS, and they showed signs of life again in the top of the sixth.
Chase DeLauter and Nathaniel Lowe sparked it once more, with Lowe singling home DeLauter to get Cleveland on the board. With the gap trimmed to 3-1, this one was still wide open heading into the final stretch.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, it was all Tampa Bay from there.
And predictably, it was their biggest star who delivered the biggest moment. Caminero doubled the lead with what might have been the defining swing of the series, launching a shot 346 feet to left in the bottom of the seventh that clanged off the foul pole and sent the crowd at Tropicana Field into a frenzy. A World Series berth was suddenly within touching distance.

With just six outs left, the Guardians were staring at a daunting 5-1 deficit. But as they've proven before, they can score in a hurry, even against the best bullpens in baseball. That fight showed again in the top of the eighth, with the rally once more starting with DeLauter.
What followed was a string of quality at-bats — a single, two walks, and a hit by pitch. Cleveland couldn't tie it despite loading the bases, but they did enough to trim the lead to two and keep their hopes alive heading into the final inning.
All of that work was erased almost instantly, though. Yandy Diaz stepped up and delivered for the second time this series, crushing a clutch two-run homer that may have just locked up Tampa Bay's trip to the World Series.

With their season and the series on the line, the Guardians had three outs left to find not one, not two, not three, but at least four runs.
It was too much to ask. For a Cleveland team that battled to the very end and for a fanbase that never stopped believing, the comeback simply wasn't there this time.

Bryan Baker shut the door in the ninth, retiring the side in order. Just like that, the Guardians' season was over and heading home.
Now it's set Milwaukee Brewers vs. Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, guaranteeing that one franchise will lift the Commissioner's Trophy for the very first time.
