Antoine Semenyo Injury Update: Man City Forward Out For Two Months With Knee Injury
Semenyo out for two months with knee injury

Manchester City and Ghana have been dealt a major blow after forward Antoine Semenyo was ruled out for up to two months with a knee ligament injury sustained in City's 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.

Semenyo faces two months out with injury in major setback for Ghana's AFCON qualifying hopes...

Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo is set to spend around eight weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee ligament injury in Manchester City's Premier League win over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca disclosed the expected layoff during his press conference ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with AEK Athens, noting that scans had allayed initial fears about the seriousness of the injury.

The Ghanaian picked up the knock during City’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich at the Etihad Stadium. Introduced as a 77th-minute substitute, the forward was later spotted limping, sparking fears over his availability in the weeks ahead.

“In the first moment we expected the worst injury and we were more worried. After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not so big like we expected,” Maresca said.

“He could be out for eight weeks, and in this moment the most important thing for him is recovery. When he is back around December, he will feel like a new player in terms of energy.”

The 26-year-old has made a bright start to the season, with two goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League so far.

His absence will come as a major setback for Maresca, who had earmarked him for a central striking role in the absence of Erling Haaland.

“To lose Antoine is not good. We said we could use him as a nine in the absence of Haaland but now we have to try and find new solutions,” he added.

Major blow for Black Stars ahead of Somalia double-header

Semenyo's likely absence until December also deals a huge blow to Ghana ahead of next month's crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Somalia.

The Black Stars head into the ties looking to kick-start their campaign after back-to-back defeats in Group C, losing 2-0 to Ivory Coast before a 4-2 reverse against The Gambia.

Ghana need maximum points from both games to climb the table, but will now have to do so without one of their most potent attacking threats.

The injury also casts doubt over Semenyo's availability for Manchester City's key games during his spell on the sidelines.

The forward is set to miss City's Premier League showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in November, as well as the Champions League trip to Barcelona in December.

City will now have to handle his rehabilitation with caution, with Maresca insisting the priority is to ensure the Ghanaian returns at full fitness.
