Carter Gordon to miss two months with broken leg in blow to Wallabies...
Wallabies flyhalf Carter Gordon is set to miss up to two months after fracturing his leg. The injury is a major setback for new Australia coach Les Kiss, Nine media reported on Monday.
Gordon picked up the injury in the 70th minute of Saturday’s 28-28 draw with Argentina in Mendoza. The Wallabies couldn’t find a winner despite Argentina playing the last 10 minutes with 13 men.
The playmaker had become Les Kiss’s first-choice No.10, a spot the Wallabies have struggled to lock down in recent years. He will now miss the September 27 Test against world champions South Africa in Perth.
Australia’s schedule also includes home and away Tests against New Zealand in mid-October. They will then travel to Europe in November for the return of the Nations Championship.
The Wallabies face New Zealand home and away in mid-October before heading to Europe for the Nations Championship, which resumes in November.
Gordon is also scheduled to marry on his return to Australia this week, Nine media said.
The 25-year-old’s career has been regularly disrupted by injuries.
He missed the Nations Championship Tests against France and Italy in July due to a calf problem. That came after he battled leg issues all through the Super Rugby Pacific season.
He switched back to rugby union late last year after spending a season in league with the Gold Coast Titans. A rare spinal condition limited him to just one NRL appearance.
Australia remain unbeaten in four Tests since Les Kiss replaced Joe Schmidt following the July internationals.
