Coco Gauff saved two match points to defeat fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2 on Wednesday and book her place in the US Open semi-finals, bouncing back after a poor opening set.  

The 2023 champion looked out of sorts early and was pushed to the edge in the second-set tiebreak. But she turned it around and finished the match with a forehand winner, dropping her racket in relief and delight.

Gauff will now meet second seed Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals.  

Andreeva looked right at home on Arthur Ashe Stadium, racing through the first four games. She never gave Gauff a break-point opportunity in the opener, committing just five unforced errors to Gauff’s 14.  

The second set turned into a real battle. Both players traded breaks twice before it went to a tiebreak, where Gauff hit a pinpoint backhand to win a 39-shot rally and saved two match points to force a decider.

Andreeva slammed her racket into her bench in frustration after being broken in the third game of the third set. Gauff then broke to love in the seventh to seal the match.
