Marseille crush 10-man Strasbourg 4-0 to kick off Ligue 1 season.

Genesio era begins with rout as Marseille hammer Strasbourg 4-0...

Amine Gouiri scored twice to lead Marseille to a dominant 4-0 win over 10-man Strasbourg on opening day at the Stade Velodrome, stretching their unbeaten home record vs Strasbourg in Ligue 1 to 19 games.

Both clubs began the 2026/27 campaign under new managers. For Marseille, new boss Bruno Genesio watched his team come out firing, with Angel Gomes twice threatening in the first 15 minutes.

The midfielder, back after a loan at Wolves, saw his first shot drift inches wide of Filip Jorgensen’s goal. About 10 minutes later he was played in by a lucky bounce in the box, but fired straight at the Chelsea loanee.

Strasbourg boss Hugo Oliveira watched his side start slowly, but they finally sparked to life when Gessime Yassine found room and forced a near-post save from Jeffrey de Lange.

Still, it was Jorgensen who made the best save of the half, tipping Amine Harit’s curling effort over the bar to keep the game goalless at the break.

Jorgensen’s save only postponed what was coming. Marseille picked up where they left off and broke the deadlock less than a minute into the second half.

Igor Paixao started it on the left, skipping past a defender with slick footwork before finding Gomes, who laid it off for Gouiri to sweep home past a helpless Jorgensen.

The first goal of the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season was quickly followed by the first red card. Samir El Mourabet was sent off for a petulant kick on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Things went from bad to worse for Strasbourg when Paixao pressed Guela Doue into a mistake and won a penalty. Gouiri stepped up and sent Jorgensen the wrong way for his second.

Marseille weren’t done yet. The hosts added two more goals to punish the 10-man visitors.

Substitute Keyliane Abdallah opened his senior account with a low finish at the near post, before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made it 4-0 with a composed volley past Jorgensen a tough start for Strasbourg boss Hugo Oliveira.
