James Harden is staying in Cleveland. The 2018 MVP has re-signed with the Cavaliers in a move that could mark the final stop of his NBA career.
Harden was the top name left on the free-agent board, but there was never much doubt where he’d land. Reports linking him to Cleveland had circulated since free agency opened.
The deal is done. The 2018 MVP is back with Cleveland on a 3-year, $97M contract.
Acquired for Darius Garland in February, Harden chose to re-sign with a Cavs team that reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season before being swept by the Knicks after two Game 7 wins.
Harden's career earnings will now reach $511 million, making him the fourth player in NBA history to eclipse the $500 million mark, joining the 76ers' LeBron James, the Rockets' Kevin Durant and the Warriors' Stephen Curry.

Cleveland’s dream of a third LeBron James homecoming didn’t materialize. Instead, the Cavs re-signed Harden, landed promising Nuggets wing Peyton Watson for Max Strus, and locked in franchise cornerstone Donovan Mitchell. It’s been a strong offseason for Cleveland, who look like one of the teams to watch next season.
Harden turns 37 in a few days, and it appears Cleveland will be the final stop of his career, unless he pushes for another trade down the line.
