AZ centre-back Alexandre Penetra is heading to newly-promoted Turkish club Corum on a season-long loan after lifting the Johan Cruyff Shield with AZ.

The 24-year-old Portuguese joined AZ from Famalicão three seasons ago. During his time in Alkmaar he made 136 appearances and won the KNVB Beker with the club last season.

Penetra was a regular in AZ’s backline last season, starting 33 of 34 Eredivisie matches. His only absence came through suspension after picking up too many yellow cards.

The centre-back was also missing from the squad for AZ’s 4-0 victory over PSV in Sunday’s Johan Cruyff Shield.

The former Portugal youth international has joined newly-promoted Corum FK on a season-long loan. Corum earned promotion by beating Erokspor in the Turkish play-off final and will feature in the Super Lig for the first time in the club’s history.

Corum open their debut Super Lig campaign against reigning champions Galatasaray on Friday, August 14.
