Van Dijk suffers injury scare in Netherlands 5-1 win over Sweden at World Cup...
Virgil van Dijk said he had a worrying injury scare in the Netherlands’ 5-1 World Cup win over Sweden. A heavy collision left his upper leg numb for a moment.
The Liverpool captain took a blow to the hip but played on as the Dutch ran out dominant winners.
After the game, Van Dijk spoke about the strange feeling and said there was early concern about how bad the knock might be.
“I took a hard hit to my hip, and I couldn’t feel my upper leg anymore, so that was a little bit crazy,” Van Dijk told NOS.
“But it was probably just a pinched nerve.”
Van Dijk played through the scare and finished the match. That gave some relief to Netherlands and Liverpool fans with the knockout rounds coming up.
“I don’t think it’s too serious, but we’ll know more soon,” he said after the game.
The Dutch wrap up Group F on Thursday, June 25. They face Tunisia at 01:00 CEST Friday, June 26, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
