Portugal icon Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player ever to score at six separate World Cups after netting the opener against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old faced criticism for a quiet, off-the-ball display in Portugal’s tournament opener vs DR Congo, but answered with his record-breaking goal vs Uzbekistan.
Needing three points after a 1-1 draw in their opener, Ronaldo broke the deadlock vs Uzbekistan in just six minutes.
Joao Cancelo delivered a perfect cross to the near post and Ronaldo met it with a sharp first-time finish.
After going 10 straight major tournament games without a goal, Ronaldo added a second vs Uzbekistan. That took him to 10 World Cup goals total, moving past Eusébio’s Portugal record.
He now sits on 145 international goals from 230 caps, both all-time records in men’s international football.
