The club plans to announce a new head coach within two weeks. Toure is in the mix, though Croatian coach Igor Biscan is reportedly the frontrunner.

After a decorated playing career, Toure’s coaching path has taken him to Ukraine, Russia, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia. Now he’s linked to the Slovak champions...

A former world football star could soon be managing Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava. According to Slovak outlet ŠPORT.sk, legendary midfielder Yaya Toure is being considered for the head coach position.

Slovan Bratislava began searching for a new coach after Vladimir Weiss Sr. left the club. Toure is one of several foreign candidates reportedly under consideration.

In recent days, Slovan general director Ivan Kmotrik Jr. denied rumors that the club had spoken with Zsolt Hornyak or Czech coach Tomas Janotka. He did confirm that Slovan are already talking to selected candidates and plan to announce the new coach within two weeks.

“We don't want to drag this out. We want to resolve it as quickly as possible, but it's not an easy decision, so we definitely won't make any hasty or rushed choices,” Kmotrik told ŠPORT.sk.

Toure’s name first came up on the show Okom Odbornika. It was mentioned there by former Slovak international Ladislav Borbely.

According to behind-the-scenes reports, the former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder is one of the candidates Slovan are in discussions with. The same report was later backed up by the podcast Bavme Sa O Lige.

Toure had an exceptional playing career. With Barcelona he won two LaLiga titles and a Champions League. He later added three more league titles during his time at Manchester City.

His coaching career is still in the early stages. Toure has worked as an assistant at Olimpik Donetsk, Akhmat Grozny, Standard Liege, and most recently with the Saudi Arabia national team under Roberto Mancini. He has been without a club since October 2024.

Slovak media report that Toure is not the leading candidate for the job. That status belongs to Croatian coach Igor Biscan, who is said to have been in contact with Slovan since December.

The former Liverpool player has managed Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatia U21 national team, and Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab during his coaching career.

Could Yaya Toure become Slovan Bratislava’s next manager?
