Sydney FC appointed caretaker coach Patrick Kisnorbo as permanent head coach on Tuesday. He signed a three-year deal after guiding the team to this weekend’s A-League playoff final.
The former Australia, Leeds United, and Leicester City defender took over in late March for the rest of the season. Kisnorbo previously led Melbourne Victory to the Australian title in 2021.
Sydney FC have not lost in seven matches under him. On Saturday they face Auckland FC in the playoff final, aiming for a record sixth A-League title.
The club said it ran a three-month search for a new coach. Kisnorbo was chosen ahead of 19 other candidates from Australia and overseas.
“I've really enjoyed working with the players over the past six weeks,” Kisnorbo, who has also coached in France and Japan, said in a news release.
“There is an exciting future ahead for this football club and I'm looking forward to being a part of it.”
