Steve Kerr is staying with the Golden State Warriors, signing a two-year extension that keeps him as the NBA’s highest-paid coach amid injury-hit season.

Steve Kerr re-signs with Warriors on two-year deal to stay as head coach....

Steve Kerr will remain head coach of the Golden State Warriors after agreeing to a new two-year contract, according to his representatives who spoke to ESPN on Saturday.

Kerr’s previous deal was set to run out at season’s end, and after Golden State’s exit in the NBA play-in tournament, he admitted he wasn’t sure if he’d return for a 13th year with the franchise.

“These jobs all have an expiration date,” Kerr said following an emotional moment with stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on the court after the Warriors' season-ending loss to Phoenix on April 17.

“There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it's time for new blood and new ideas,” the coach said.

Draymond Green had fueled talk that Kerr, 60, might step down with comments made on his podcast. However, ESPN reported via Priority Sports agents Dan Eveloff and Rick Smith that Kerr had opted to continue.

According to ESPN’s unnamed league sources, the new two-year contract will make Kerr the NBA’s highest-paid coach on an annual basis. He earned $17.5 million last season.

Golden State captured the 2015 championship in Kerr’s debut year and added three more titles in 2017, 2018, and 2022.

The Warriors fought their way into the play-in this season despite a string of injuries. Jimmy Butler, signed to support the veteran duo of Curry and Green, tore his left ACL in January.

Moses Moody was carted off the floor in March after suffering a torn knee tendon.

Curry, 38, was sidelined by an ankle sprain earlier in the year and later missed 27 consecutive games with a lingering knee issue.
