Son Heung-min scored twice as South Korea beat Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in a World Cup friendly. It was his first international goal since Nov 2025.

Captain’s response, Son scores twice as South Korea cruise past Trinidad & Tobago...

Son Heung-min got back on the scoresheet with two goals as South Korea thrashed Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in a friendly on Saturday, their final World Cup warm-up.

The 33-year-old had been under pressure over his dip in form, having netted just twice for LAFC this season at club level.

Son hadn’t scored for South Korea since a friendly with Bolivia in November 2025, but that wait ended in Utah.

The captain rediscovered his touch as South Korea eased past the Caribbean side at their Salt Lake City camp, with Cho Gue-sung also bagging two goals.

South Korea are in World Cup Group A alongside the Czech Republic, South Africa and co-hosts Mexico. They kick off against the Czechs in Guadalajara on June 11th.

Son broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time, slotting in a low cross from close range.

He made it 2-0 shortly after, stepping up to convert a penalty with a strike into the corner.

The brace took him to 56 goals in 144 caps for South Korea, just two shy of Cha Bum-kun’s all-time national record.
