Robert Lewandowski scored in his last game for Barcelona, but Valencia came from behind to seal a 3-1 win at Mestalla.
Despite the defeat, Hansi Flick’s side finished eight points clear of Real Madrid to win LaLiga. Valencia ended the season unbeaten in four games...
Valencia closed out the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Barcelona, snapping an 11-game winless run against the Catalan side in LaLiga. The result wasn’t enough to earn them a spot in European competition next season.
Los Che had only secured their place in the top flight six days earlier. Despite that, they hosted the newly crowned champions and knew a win might still push them into the UEFA Conference League places.
A Mestalla crowd full of energy watched their side come out strong, creating several clear chances in the first 20 minutes.
Diego Lopez fired a close-range shot over the bar, and Gavi then blocked Luis Rioja’s effort. Lopez soon turned provider for Hugo Duro, but Valencia’s striker headed just over.
Carlos Corberan’s team looked determined to snatch a European spot. Wojciech Szczesny had to step up and save Filip Ugrinic’s low drive.
Barcelona started more slowly but nearly took the lead when Alejandro Balde struck the side netting after a quick one-two with Dani Olmo.
Robert Lewandowski met Marcus Rashford’s corner at the near post with a header that bounced off the post, ending an absorbing first half.
That late chance shifted momentum going into the second half. After Lopez left injured, Barcelona took the lead through Lewandowski in his final game for the club.
Pepelu’s headed clearance fell to Ferran Torres, whose cross-shot was
turned in at the far post by the Polish striker.
Valencia leveled things up five minutes later. Javi Guerra drove into Barcelona’s defense and slotted a left-footed shot past Szczesny for his third goal in two games.
Rioja turned the game around and sent Mestalla into pandemonium. The winger cut inside onto his left foot and fired an accurate strike past Szczesny after a fast-flowing move.
It looked like Valencia would make it three when Marc Bernal was penalized for a challenge on Jesus Vazquez. Referee Adrian Cordero Vega initially gave a penalty, but VAR ruled the foul happened outside the box.

As time ran down, Andreas Christensen stretched to get his right leg on the ball and level the score, but Stole Dimitrievski made the save.
Valencia sealed the win deep into stoppage time when Guido Rodriguez drove a low right-footed shot under Szczesny’s outstretched hand to take all three points.
The result gave Los Che four unbeaten league games in a row for the first time since last December and secured a solid ninth-place finish.
Hansi Flick’s side ended the season with their sixth league defeat, but it was still a brilliant campaign overall. They finished eight points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table.
