Elina Svitolina dropped the opening set but rallied to beat Belinda Bencic 4-6 6-4 6-0 on Sunday, reaching the French Open quarter-finals and setting up an all-Ukrainian clash with Marta Kostyuk.

The 7th seed started sluggishly but finished in control. Svitolina, 31, is chasing her first Grand Slam title and arrived in Paris full of confidence after winning Rome, where she beat Coco Gauff in the final. She needed three sets in round one, then cruised through the next two rounds to build rhythm before facing 11th seed Bencic on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Bencic, still hunting her first Grand Slam after Olympic gold in Tokyo five years ago, held off a late Svitolina surge to snatch the first set. The Ukrainian found her range quickly to pull the match level, then cranked up the intensity in the decider as Bencic’s level dropped.

Svitolina finished by shutting Bencic out in the third set to book a quarter-final date with Kostyuk. The Ukrainian 24th seed had earlier stunned four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek to reach this stage.
