Bologna 0-0 Cagliari: Stalemate Extends Serie A Goalless Run to Three Games
| Bologna stalled again in goalless draw with Cagliari |
Bologna held again in cagey draw as relegation battle drags on, Serie A sees third straight 0-0 result at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Sunday.
Caprile and teenage keeper Pessina made key saves in a match with few clear chances...
Bologna played out a flat 0-0 with Cagliari at home on Sunday afternoon, marking the third Serie A match in a row to finish without a goal.
Bologna sat 9th coming into the game, while 16th-placed Cagliari needed a win to secure safety with three matches left. Vincenzo Italiano was missing Lukasz Skorupski, Joao Mario, Nicolo Cambiaghi, and Thijs Dallinga, and Cagliari traveled without Riyad Idrissi, Luca Mazzitelli, Mattia Felici, Leonardo Pavoletti, and Gennaro Borrelli.
Federico Bernardeschi took the match’s first shot on target in the 25th minute, cutting in from the right and curling a left-footed effort toward the far corner from the edge of the box. Elia Caprile dealt with it comfortably.
Massimo Pessina, the teenage goalkeeper, was called upon just before halftime and reacted well to keep out Sebastiano Esposito’s close-range strike at the near post.
Benja Dominguez appealed for a penalty right after when he felt Yerry Mina’s hand on his back at the other end, but the referee waved it away and VAR didn’t intervene.
Ten minutes into the second half, Caprile had to dive low and push out a strong hand to stop Nikola Moro’s dipping shot from the edge of the box.
Santiago Castro, off the bench, hit a sharp effort from a tight angle in the 66th minute, but Caprile was set at his near post and blocked it with his whole body.

Ze Pedro had a clear chance to put Cagliari ahead 10 minutes from time. Michael Folorunsho pulled a cross back into a crowded Bologna box that dropped to Ze Pedro, who blasted his first-time shot over the bar from the edge of the six-yard area.
Following 0-0 results for Como vs Napoli and Atalanta vs Genoa on Saturday evening, this made it three Serie A games in a row without a goal. Bologna have now gone four matches without a win in all competitions, and Cagliari still aren’t mathematically safe from relegation.
