Midtjylland lead Superliga after thursday wins, AGF held, Randers escape relegation zone...

FC Midtjylland climbed above AGF to the top of the Danish Superliga on Thursday night, capitalizing on AGF’s 1-1 draw away at FC Nordsjaelland with a hard-fought and somewhat lucky 2-1 win at Sonderjyske.

Midtjylland Edge Sonderjyske to Leapfrog AGF

FC Midtjylland traveled to Sonderjyske with momentum from Monday’s victory over AGF, aware that three points in Haderslev would send them above their Aarhus rivals into first place in the Superliga.

The visitors controlled the game from kickoff and went ahead in the 24th minute. Sonderjyske’s third-choice keeper Benicio Pena spilled Dario Osorio’s effort, and Edward Chilufya reacted quickest to tuck in the rebound from close range.

Sonderjyske still threatened throughout the first half and got their reward five minutes before the break. On a counter, Matthew Hoppe beat two defenders before firing a fine strike in off the post past keeper Elias Olofsson.

Four minutes into the second half, FC Midtjylland retook the lead as Daniel Gretarsson turned Victor Bak’s cross into his own net while trying to clear. Sonderjyske pushed for an equalizer and nearly found one when Olofsson made a goal-line save, but the visitors held firm to secure all three points.

AGF Drop Points in Farum as Nordsjaelland Battle Back

FC Nordsjaelland 1-1 AGF
AGF came to Farum looking to respond after a late collapse against FC Midtjylland, where they shipped two goals in the final six minutes. They rode their luck in the 28th minute when Magnus Knudsen’s slight touch stopped Lamine Sadio from tapping into an empty net.

Three minutes later, the visitors got the lift they needed. Sebastian Jorgensen surged into the box and cut the ball back for the charging Patrick Mortensen, who slid in to finish and put AGF 1-0 up.

Keeper Errors Cost Randers as Fredericia Strike Early

In the day’s final Superliga game, Fredericia and Randers played out a 2-2 draw defined by goalkeeping errors and a bizarre own goal.

The game exploded into life after just five minutes. Randers keeper Paul Izzo punched a corner straight to Sofus Johansen, who nodded in to give the visitors an early lead and leave the Randers bench furious.

At the other end, Fredericia keeper Valdemar Birksoe made a similar mistake in the 28th minute. He failed to reach an inswinging corner, giving John Bjorkengren a simple finish to level the score.

The string of costly errors continued in the 34th minute when Martin Sjolstad tried to clear but instead looped the ball over Izzo and into his own net, handing Fredericia a lucky 2-1 lead.

Randers hit back shortly after halftime to remain one point clear of the relegation zone. Mathias Greve delivered a quality ball into the box and Cyril Edudzi poked it home to make it 2-2.
