The Colorado Avalanche took a 2-0 series lead over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night after Nicolas Roy scored the overtime winner.

It was a goaltending duel as Scott Wedgewood and Anton Forsberg combined for 58 saves. The series now heads to Los Angeles for Game 3 on April 23 and Game 4 on April 26.

The game was scoreless until the final seven minutes of the third, but there was no shortage of excitement.

Period Flashpoints

Tensions flared early when a full brawl broke out midway through the first period, sending Brett Kulak (COL) and Mikey Anderson (LA) to the penalty box.

After a scoreless first, Quinton Byfield had a penalty shot chance to put the Kings up 1-0.

But Wedgewood made a stunning glove save to deny Byfield and keep the game scoreless.

He became just the second goalie in Avs history to save a penalty shot in the playoffs, joining Philipp Grubauer (2019).

The save sent Avs fans into a frenzy, with fans behind the Kings bench breaking the glass and causing a delay.

No one on the Kings' bench was hurt by the broken glass. Play resumed shortly after a crew installed a replacement pane.

Colorado had a brief power play before Nathan MacKinnon took a two-minute minor for interference, sending the game to 4-on-4 for almost two full minutes.

The game’s first goal didn’t come until late in the third when the Los Angeles Kings went on the power play.

Artemi Panarin scored his second goal of the playoffs to put the Kings up 1-0 with 6:56 left. It was his first shot on net all game, and both of his playoff goals have come on the power play.

It was the Kings’ first lead of the series.

After standing tall all game, Kings goaltender Anton Forsberg finally conceded shortly after his team’s first goal.

Like Panarin, Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog scored on his first shot on net to tie it 1-1 with under three minutes left in the third, forcing overtime.
