Malmo 1-0 AIK: Botheim Scores, Dahlin Denies Yohanna Late On

AIK fail to score against Malmo

Johan Dahlin’s nine saves outshone Kristoffer Nordfeldt as Malmo beat AIK 1-0. Erik Botheim scored the only goal to hand AIK back-to-back defeats.

AIK find no way past unbeatable Dahlin as Malmo hold on for win in Solna. Botheim scored and Dahlin starred as AIK stayed on seven points...

Malmo remained unbeaten away from home in Allsvenskan this season thanks to a 1-0 victory over AIK at Strawberry Arena in Solna, returning to winning ways and inflicting back-to-back losses on the home side.

Two historic clubs with 36 Swedish titles between them started the season aiming for a top-three finish in the Allsvenskan under their new Spanish managers after disappointing 2025 campaigns. More immediately, both were looking for a quick response after suffering their first defeats of the season in midweek.

Neither meeting between the two produced a goal last season, and both sides looked to use the wings in the opening exchanges. But the defences dealt with the crosses, before AIK’s Bersant Celina fired the first shot well over after eight minutes.

Soon after, Taha Ali jinked past home defenders before the ball fell kindly to Sead Haksabanovic on the edge of the area. His shot was deflected wide, and from the resulting corner Malmo worked it back to the Montenegrin in the same position. This time his low effort curled a whisker wide.

AIK fans have been excited about young winger Zadok Yohanna, and he showed promise after 18 minutes with a quick strike that stung Johan Dahlin’s gloves. The visiting keeper then got fingertips to an Abdihakim Ali effort after the midfielder turned his man superbly.

But just as the home side looked on top, they fell behind in the 25th minute. Otto Rosengren strode through the heart of AIK territory, and when his shot was saved by the diving Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Haksabanovic kept the ball alive at the byline. He crossed into the danger area for Erik Botheim to head in his second of the season.

Passionate celebrations from Malmo head coach Miguel Angel Ramirez angered the home crowd, but once tempers calmed, AIK regained control. They came close to an equaliser when Yohanna curled the ball over the top corner, then Amel Mujanic’s tame shot was easy for Dahlin.

Malmo’s best chance to double their lead before half-time came from a powerful low drive by Yanis Karabelyov, but Sweden’s number one, Nordfeldt, got down well to keep it out. The one-goal lead at the break held after Dahlin parried Mujanic’s strike following a through ball from Taha Ayari.

Incredibly, Gnaget hadn’t scored against Malmo in their last five meetings, and their attempts to change that in the opening 10 minutes of the second half came to nothing. Despite good pressure, they couldn’t break down the Himmelsblått defence. When the visitors finally pushed up, AIK grew frustrated, with Mujanic booked for a foul on Ali.

Malmo looked vulnerable at the back, giving the ball away to substitute Erik Flataker on the edge of their area. When the forward’s effort was blocked, Yohanna followed up but missed the target. Rosengren was then twice the hero around the hour mark with key interceptions inside the six-yard box.

Entering the final 20 minutes, a Celina strike looked destined for the net before Andrej Djuric headed it clear. The Kosovo winger then latched onto a long ball over the top, but Dahlin closed the shot down well. Celina also had a strong penalty appeal turned down after tangling with Djuric while attacking a cross, but referee Granit Maqedonci waved it away.

Malmo came under constant bombardment in the final 10 minutes. A poor punch from Dahlin gifted Ibrahim Cisse a volleying chance, but the keeper recovered to save. Centre-back Cisse, playing as a makeshift centre-forward, then had a downward header clutched by Dahlin moments later. The 39-year-old strengthened his Man of the Match claim by tipping over a deflected Aron Csongvai strike from the edge of the area.

Deep into five minutes of added time, Yohanna looked to have salvaged a point for AIK. But there was no beating Dahlin tonight. He went full stretch once again to turn it past the post for his ninth save of the match, as Malmo survived a backs-to-the-wall performance and took all three points at the national stadium.

It’s a first loss in Solna under Jose Riveiro for AIK, who stay on seven points in the standings. Malmo reach double figures after five matches.
