Vingegaard claims first Paris-Nice title, Lenny Martinez wins final stage...

Jonas Vingegaard made history – the Danish rider won Paris-Nice with a huge 4:23 lead.

Vingegaard took the title with 2 stage wins, while Lenny Martinez took the final stage – sprinting past him in Nice.

German Georg Steinhauser completed the podium, finishing ahead of two Frenchmen, Kévin Vauquelin and Lenny Martinez.

Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike)secured his career-first overall victory at Paris-Nice after otherwise finishing second on the 8th stage, as he lost out narrowly to Lenny Martinez (Bahrain-Victorious) in a sprint after the pair had broken away from the peloton in the final phase of the race.

“Today was almost the perfect day. We had a fun day, riding full throttle all day. Now I have finally been able to win Paris-Nice. It has been difficult for me. I am very happy to be sitting here in the yellow jersey. I would have loved to win the stage too, but Lenny was very strong and deserves the victory too.

“It means a lot to me to win. It has been the race I couldn't win. Now I finally won it. It makes me extremely happy. It is a good start to the year. I am very proud of that,” said Vingegaard after the race to TV2 Sport.
