From being surplus at AaB to starring in the Champions League with Bodo/Glimt...

Danish striker Kasper Hogh is set to make his international debut for Denmark in Thursday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia.

In an interview with Danish media, the 25-year-old revealed that finding God has been the main reason behind his dramatic improvement in goalscoring form.

In just a few years, Hogh has transformed from being deemed surplus to requirements at crisis-stricken AaB in Denmark’s second tier to becoming a prolific scorer for Bodø/Glimt. His goals have played a key role in helping the Norwegian club reach the Champions League round of 16, where they have impressed against some of Europe’s top teams.

“Finding God” has been a game-changer for Hogh. He's credited his spiritual awakening for the incredible upswing in his career lately.

“I have found God. That is the reason why I am sitting here today - and thank God for that,” says Kasper Hogh when asked about what has been the reason for his vastly improved goalscoring form.

He added that he has learned from his past mistakes, when he was often labelled as a player who focused on too many things outside the pitch rather than what truly mattered on it.

“It's about self-awareness, and that I've gotten older. You learn from your mistakes, and I've found that I was to blame for what happened in the past,” says Hogh.

Kasper Hogh, the Bodo/Glimt striker, credits a head injury he suffered in August 2022 as the catalyst for his personal transformation. He says this incident, along with some tough times, made him reflect on his life and priorities. Hogh's newfound focus has led to impressive performances on the pitch, including scoring crucial goals for Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

“There have been a few incidents. Both when I hit my head, when some things dawned on me, but also afterwards, there have been small injuries and stupid things where I thought: 'It can't be right that it's my fault,' but it was, and then I had to look inward,” says Hogh.

Kasper Hogh's life took a dramatic turn after joining Bodo/Glimt in 2024. He credits his teammate Albert Gronbaek for introducing him to Christianity, which led to a profound revelation. This newfound faith has been a game-changer for Hogh, helping him find purpose and focus on his football career.

“I found an inner peace. It started with me buying the Bible and sitting down to read it to try to understand some things.

“For me, it's about being a good person with the qualities and values inherent in that. That's not to say that everyone has to do it and that it's the right thing to do, but that's what I've done,” says Hogh and explains that it began with Albert Gronbaek. “We lay and read the Bible and prayed when we lived together,”  says Hogh, who reveals that Christianity has changed him as a person.

“100 percent. I have changed. I'm still a happy boy, and I still want to have fun, but I think I've learned when to turn up the heat and when to turn it down,” says Hogh.

Kasper Hogh is set to make his Denmark debut in the World Cup qualification playoff semi-final against North Macedonia at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium on Thursday evening. This could be his chance to shine, having impressed with his goalscoring form for Bodo/Glimt, including crucial strikes in the Champions League.
