AFC postpones some Champions League knockouts due to Middle East conflict. Next week's matches in Asian tournaments scheduled in the Middle East have been postponed until further notice.
The AFC cited the conflict's impact on travel in the region, with the U.S. and Israel's attack on Iran affecting countries throughout the Gulf and forcing sporting events to be cancelled.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has postponed Western region matches in the Asian Champions League Elite, Champions League Two, and Challenge League scheduled for next week (Monday to Wednesday). This decision follows earlier postponements of Asian Champions League Elite round of 16 clashes in the Middle East due to Iran's cancellation of sporting events and Qatar's suspension of matches.
The postponements are a precautionary measure amid escalating tensions in the region, with the AFC prioritizing the safety and security of players, teams, officials, and fans. Matches in the East Region will proceed as planned.
“The AFC’s priority remains the safety and security of all stakeholders including players, teams, officials, partners and fans and we are steadfast in our commitment to ensuring a secure environment for all,” the continental body said in a statement.
