The 45th Ryder Cup is set to tee off on September 26-28, 2025, with Team USA facing off against Team Europe in a battle for golf supremacy.

Aggressiveness is probably going to be a good strategy. You're going to have to play like you're trying to birdie almost every hole...”

The 45th Ryder Cup kicked off at Bethpage Black in an electric atmosphere, with Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau hitting the opening tee shots. The crowd of 50,000 spectators was buzzing with excitement as Team USA took on Team Europe in the biennial golf rivalry. US President Donald Trump was in attendance, adding to the high-energy environment.

President Trump's presence at the Ryder Cup has brought extra security measures, including airport-style screenings and restricted access to certain areas. Despite the potential disruptions, Team USA captain Keegan Bradley expressed gratitude for Trump's attendance, saying it's “something that everyone will remember forever.”

The match got off to a lively start, with Jon Rahm's drive veering into the right rough, while Bryson DeChambeau's powerful shot landed just 10 yards shy of the green, sending the crowd into raptures. The electric atmosphere was palpable, with 5,000 fans packed into the largest grandstand in Ryder Cup history, chanting “We want Bryson” as the teams took to the first tee.

Team Europe, the current trophy holders, are gunning for their first road win since the 2012 “Miracle at Medinah,” while the Americans are hungry for revenge after losing out two years ago in Rome. Captain Luke Donald acknowledged the intensity of the first tee, saying, “It's pure energy, no matter where you play, home or away.” The stage was set for a thrilling showdown between the two teams.

Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas kicked off the Ryder Cup action, teaming up against Europe's Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton in the first foursomes match. DeChambeau expressed his determination, saying, “We've got a big responsibility and role. We're going to be going up against a great team. They're a formidable force, but we want to send a message.” This match sets the tone for the rest of the competition, with Team USA looking to break Europe's stronghold on the trophy.

US captain Keegan Bradley kicked off the Ryder Cup with a bang, choosing Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas to lead the American team onto the field. Wrapped in an American flag, the two-time major winners received thunderous applause from the US fans. Bradley praised the duo, saying, “They are both fiery players. They are both relishing the opportunity to lead out our team. They are just two guys that thrive in that role.”

The excitement began early, with hundreds of fans rushing to secure prime spots at the first tee as soon as the gates opened at 5 am. The pre-dawn darkness was illuminated by floodlights, casting an electric atmosphere over the proceedings. The fans' enthusiasm was palpable, creating an intense scene reminiscent of Olympic events.

The electric atmosphere at Bethpage Black was palpable as American fans, decked out in red, white, and blue, chanted “U-S-A” to rally their team. Meanwhile, European supporters donned blue and yellow, enthusiastically singing “Ole, Ole, Ole” to energize their squad. This lively display set the tone for an intense competition featuring golf's biggest stars.

With US President Donald Trump in attendance, extra security measures were put in place, although specifics weren't disclosed. According to sources, plans were made for Trump's appearance in the afternoon, ensuring a smooth and secure experience for the president and other spectators.

Match 2: Scheffler/Henley vs Fitzpatrick/Åberg

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who secured six wins this year including the British Open and PGA Championship, teamed up with world No. 3 Russell Henley in the second foursomes match. They faced Europe's Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg. Unfortunately, Scheffler and Henley lost 5 and 3 to the European duo.

Match 3: McIlroy/Fleetwood vs Morikawa/English

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, fresh from completing a career Grand Slam with his Masters win in April, partnered with Tommy Fleetwood in the third match. They took on Americans Collin Morikawa and Harris English, winning 5 and 4. McIlroy's experience and skill clearly paid off in this match.

Match 4: Schauffele/Cantlay vs MacIntyre/Hovland

The final foursomes match pitted Americans Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay against Europe's Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland. This match is currently ongoing, with Schauffele and Cantlay looking to secure a crucial point for Team USA.

Ryder Cup Strategy and Team Dynamics

Viktor Hovland believes aggressiveness will be a key strategy in the Ryder Cup, stating, “Aggressiveness is probably going to be a good strategy. You're going to have to play like you're trying to birdie almost every hole.” This approach seems fitting given the course layout, with holes like the 4th, a risk-reward par-5 measuring 517 yards, and the par-4 16th hole, which is 539 yards long. The 17th hole, a par-3 with a highly protected green surrounded by five giant bunkers, will also require precise and bold play.

Competition Format and Points Requirement

Morning Foursomes Matches: Four matches will take place on Friday and Saturday, with teams playing alternate shots.

Afternoon Four-Ball Matches: Four matches will occur after the morning sessions, with teammates playing their own balls and the best score counting.

Sunday Singles Matches: 12 matches will conclude the competition, with each player competing individually.

Points Requirement: The Americans need 14.5 points to win the Cup, while Europe requires 14 points to retain the trophy.

Head-to-Head Rivalry

The Ryder Cup rivalry between the US and Europe has a long history, with the US team leading 27-15 with two draws overall. However, since Europe's team expansion beyond Britain and Ireland in 1979, Europe holds a 12-9 lead with one draw. Europe has dominated the past 14 meetings, winning 10 times.

The Day's Schedule
