Laver Cup: Team World Reclaims Title with 15-9 Win
Team World wins the Laver Cup title with a 15-9 victory over Team Europe, thanks to Taylor Fritz's decisive win over Alexander Zverev.
“The energy from the team, the moments of winning feel so much better and the moments of losing feel so much worse...”
Taylor Fritz delivered a stunning performance to seal Team World's third Laver Cup title in four years, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4) in the decisive match. This victory marked a 15-9 win for Team World over Team Europe in the men's team competition held in San Francisco. Fritz's win was a testament to his exceptional skill and the team's overall strength, with captain Andre Agassi's energetic leadership playing a significant role in their success.
The win marked a triumphant return to the top for Team World, which had previously secured back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. Team Europe had won five of the eight editions, but Team World dominated this year's competition, overcoming a slow start on Friday to sweep all four matches on Saturday and build a commanding 9-3 lead. On Sunday, despite some late efforts from Team Europe, led by Carlos Alcaraz's singles and doubles wins, Team World held their ground, with Alex de Minaur's win over Jakub Mensik setting up Fritz's clinching match.
Fritz's victory over Zverev was a nail-biter, with both players displaying exceptional skill and determination. Ultimately, Fritz's ability to capitalize on the moments and his precise shot-making secured the win for Team World. The team's jubilant celebrations at the Chase Center reflected their pride and joy in reclaiming the title, and they will look to carry this momentum into future competitions. The next edition of the Laver Cup will take place in London in 2026.
“We're going to have a fun night. We're definitely popping champagne in the locker room in a few minutes,” Fritz said.
“The energy from the team, ... the moments of winning feel so much better and the moments of losing feel so much worse. You're doing it for all these guys. It fires me up so much. I always feel I play my best tennis in team environments.
“Seeing these guys on the bench getting pumped up, seeing a legend of the sport like Andre jumping out of his seat cheering for me, it's just impossible not to give everything you have in every point.”
Team World had established a commanding 9-3 lead after a clean sweep on Saturday. However, with four matches remaining on the final day and wins worth three points, the competition was far from over. The team needed to reach 13 points to prevail, and every match counted.

Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud kicked off the final day's proceedings with a strong performance, securing a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka. This victory narrowed the gap between the teams. Nevertheless, Team Europe faced another setback when Alex De Minaur dominated Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4, extending Team World's lead to 12-6.
US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz kept Team Europe's hopes alive with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win over Francisco Cerundolo, narrowing the gap to just three points. However, Alexander Zverev's chance to level the scores at 12-12 slipped away as Taylor Fritz secured a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory, ultimately leading Team World to a 15-9 triumph.
The 2026 Laver Cup edition is set to take place at London's O2 Arena, promising an exciting new venue for the prestigious team competition. Team World celebrated their third title in four years with jubilant celebrations, praising the team's determination and spirit. Captain Andre Agassi's influence was evident, with players like Fritz crediting his energy and leadership for their success.
