“It's amazing, I'm sure that back home some Italians are not sleeping. It's a special country and we have amazing support...”

Jannik Sinner cruised past Lorenzo Musetti in the US Open quarterfinals, winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in a convincing display. The world No. 1 and defending champion dominated the match, extending his hard-court winning streak to 26 matches.

“It was a good performance, I was very solid, I started well... it's nearly midnight, so thank you all for staying,” Sinner said to the crowd, acknowledging their support late into the evening. Sinner's victory sets up a semifinal match against Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Sinner and Musetti are familiar foes, and Sinner's experience paid off in their encounter. “Obviously, we know each other well,” Sinner noted, highlighting the competitive nature of their matches. With this win, Sinner continues his strong run at the US Open.

“We're from the same country, there are so many Italians in the draw. Many Italians here so it's nice to play here. Playing Davis Cup together and stuff but you have to take the friendship away for the match. When we shake hands, everything is fine.

“It's amazing, I'm sure that back home some Italians are not sleeping. It's a special country and we have amazing support.”

Sinner's powerful hitting set the tone early, as he took a 5-0 lead in the first set. The crowd's loudest applause came when Musetti finally got on the board, but that was a brief moment of joy for the Italian player, as Sinner cruised to a 6-1 win in the opening set.

Musetti showed some fight in the second set, briefly threatening to break Sinner's serve, but the world No. 1 held his nerve to maintain his advantage. Sinner then eased through the next set, wrapping it up with a clean hold to seal a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory.

“Every player in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam is playing amazing tennis,” Sinner said, showing respect for his upcoming opponents. Sinner's win sets up a semifinal match against Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will be looking to pull off an upset against the dominant world No. 1.

“It's a very special tournament. The last Grand Slam of the year. There's no better place to play a night match here, on the biggest stadium we have, with an amazing crowd.

“It means a lot to me.”
