James Maddison's Injury Update and UEFA Super Cup Match Details

James Maddison's injury update: Tottenham star set for long-term absence after ACL injury in pre-season friendly.

James Maddison's injury is a significant blow to both Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team. The 28-year-old midfielder suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul, South Korea. This injury will likely keep him sidelined for 6-12 months, ruling him out for most of the 2025-26 season.

Maddison had only recently returned to training after missing the Europa League final against Manchester United in May due to a previous knee injury. The news of his ACL injury has been met with disappointment from fans and teammates alike, with Tottenham's manager Thomas Frank facing challenges in finding a suitable replacement. Potential targets include Leicester City's Bilal El Khannouss and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White, although the latter has since signed a new contract with his current club.

Injury Details:
  • Type: Ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in right knee
  • Surgery: Scheduled in the coming days
  • Recovery: 6-12 months, potentially missing most of the 2025-26 season
  • Previous Injury: Maddison had injured the same knee earlier in the season, missing the Europa League final

Tottenham has confirmed that Maddison will undergo surgery and begin his rehabilitation with the club's medical team. The club wishes him a full and speedy recovery, and fans are sending their best wishes for his return.
