„Fränkie war ein Schlitzohr auf dem Rasen und ein wunderbarer Gesprächspartner außerhalb des Spielfelds. Als er 1986 zu uns kam, ging es bergauf. Er hatte großen Anteil am Gewinn des DFB-Pokals 1989, der Vizemeisterschaft 1992 und dem… pic.twitter.com/F3CrAujNJ0
“Frank was not only one of the greatest footballers Rot-Weiss Essen has ever produced - he was also a fine person: down-to-earth, authentic and full of positive energy," said RW Essen's board member Alexander Rang.
“With his manner, he not only shaped our club and the Ruhr region, but was also an ambassador for football throughout Germany. We are very sad. With Frank, we are losing a red-white legend - and a true friend of the RWE family. His achievements will remain unforgotten. They are a role model and an obligation for us.”

Frank Mill was part of West Germany's 1990 World Cup-winning squad. He played for several clubs, including Fortuna Düsseldorf, Rot-Weiss Essen, Borussia Dortmund, and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Mill earned 17 caps for the West Germany national team.
Mill's passing marks the second loss for the 1990 World Cup-winning squad, following Andreas Brehme's death in 2024. Notably, Mill did not feature in any matches during the 1990 World Cup despite being part of the winning squad.
