Postecoglou: Spurs Aim to Compete Well Against Liverpool Despite Title Implications
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou provides update on Son Heung-min's injury ahead of Liverpool match and shares team's focus on competing well.
Tottenham Hotspur will face Liverpool on Sunday without captain Son Heung-min, who is recovering from a foot injury. Manager Ange Postecoglou hopes Son could return for the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.
Son has missed Tottenham's last three games, and Postecoglou confirmed he's the only injury concern ahead of the Liverpool match. The team's focus will shift to the Europa League semi-final if Son returns to fitness.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou provided an update on Son Heung-min's injury, saying, “He's improving, which is positive, but not for Sunday. We'll see (for Thursday).” Son has been out with a foot injury and took his first steps on grass, showing progress.
“He was the first time he got out on the grass today and it's definitely better than what it was. It's a foot element, so because it's weight-bearing, you need to give him a bit of rest and time off it,” Postecoglou added. Despite Liverpool potentially clinching the title, Postecoglou wants his team to perform well at Anfield, while keeping an eye on the Europa League semi-final.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou emphasized the importance of competing well against Liverpool, saying, “We want to go there and compete well against a very good side. It's not about getting through unscathed, you want to get through having played well against a top team.”
Postecoglou added, “Irrespective of what's on the horizon, that's still of primary importance to us.” A successful run in the Europa League could salvage a disappointing league season and secure a Champions League spot for next year.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the team's disappointing league form but emphasized the opportunity presented by the Europa League, saying, “We're well aware our league form and position is nowhere near good enough but we also know there's an unbelievable opportunity on the horizon.”
“That's where the focus is and that's where the focus should be for a club that hasn't had a lot of success recently. Collectively, if we give ourselves every opportunity to progress to a final then hopefully the momentum we gain from that will give us a chance to do something special,” he added. Despite being a former Liverpool supporter, Postecoglou dismissed its relevance, saying, “I'm almost a 60-year-old adult, I've gone past my boyhood crushes. It's got no impact whatsoever.”
