EPL: Wolves Ease Past Spurs in Premier League Thriller

Wolves secure a 4-2 win over Tottenham, moving closer to Premier League safety after a thrilling match.

Wolverhampton Wanderers eased to a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, moving closer to securing their Premier League safety. The victory extended Wolves' unbeaten head-to-head run against Spurs to five matches. For Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, the slow start proved disastrous.

Tottenham fell behind in just four minutes in somewhat comical circumstances. Guglielmo Vicario punched a freekick away to the edge of the area, where Rayan Aït-Nouri's miscued volley bounced awkwardly off the turf and into the far corner. Spurs struggled in the opening stages, and they should have been two goals down when Vicario's limp clearance fell to Jorgen Strand Larsen, but he stumbled and his effort sailed narrowly wide.

As Tottenham settled into the game, they showed improvement and came close to equalizing when Yves Bissouma's shot from the edge of the area stung Jose Sá's palms. However, Dom Solanke and Brennan Johnson wasted opportunities to level the score, and Wolves capitalized on Spurs' mistakes.

The second goal for Wolves was farcical, as a deflected cross should have posed no threat, but Guglielmo Vicario palmed the ball against Djed Spence, and it trickled over the line. Despite taking risks with their possession-based approach, Wolves had a couple of scares but managed to reduce the deficit before halftime. Mathys Tel scored by steering home Brennan Johnson's cross at the far post, giving Spurs temporary hope.

However, any optimism for Spurs was short-lived, as another defensive blunder led to Wolves extending their lead. The goal dashed Spurs' hopes of a comeback and left them struggling to mount a meaningful challenge.

Cristian Romero was left vulnerable as Rayan Aït-Nouri cleverly picked his pocket and rolled the ball across the six-yard line for Jorgen Strand Larsen to tap into an empty net. This goal further extended Wolves' lead and dealt a significant blow to Spurs' hopes.

New signing Matheus Cunha, returning after a four-game ban, was introduced and nearly marked his return with a goal, hitting the bar with a wicked strike. Despite the opportunity to seal the win, Wolves had to settle for a nervous finish when Richarlison pulled one back for Spurs. However, Cunha soon eased those nerves by re-establishing Wolves' two-goal cushion, securing a crucial victory. This win marked Wolves' first back-to-back home wins of the season.
