UEL: Bodo/Glimt Blow Away Olympiacos with 3-0 Victory in Europa League

FK Bodo/Glimt secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Olympiacos in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie, with Kasper Hogh scoring twice.

FK Bodo/Glimt produced a stunning performance to defeat Olympiacos 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Europa League Round of 16 tie, ending the Greek side's 26-game unbeaten run. This comprehensive victory gives the Norwegian side a significant advantage ahead of the return leg.

Bodo/Glimt, fresh from their dramatic comeback against Twisted Twente in the previous round, sought to continue their impressive home form in European competition. Having won seven of their eight home matches this season, the hosts quickly asserted their dominance. After just eight minutes, Jostein Gundersen's header ricocheted off the bar and rebounded off Olympiacos goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzlof Tzolakis, giving Bodo/Glimt an early lead.

The first half was marked by Bodo/Glimt's dominance, although they survived two scares from Olympiacos' Roman Yaremchuk, who was twice denied by Nikita Haikin. As the half drew to a close, Kjetil Knutsen's side excelled, with Kasper Hogh taking center stage. Hogh initially squandered a great chance by blasting straight at Tzolakis, following an impressive 70-yard run from Fredrik Andre Bjorkan. However, he redeemed himself just five minutes later by doubling Bodo/Glimt's lead.

Excellent interplay down the right wing led to Ole Didrik Blomberg's release, and his subsequent cross was scuffed home by Kasper Hogh, who caught goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis off guard. This goal marked the beginning of a dominant spell for Bodo/Glimt, who sought to capitalize on their momentum and effectively seal the tie.

The Greek side were given a brief respite, lasting just 15 minutes, before Bodo/Glimt continued to assert their dominance. Ulrik Saltnes had already been denied by Tzolakis when Hogh scored his second goal of the night, tapping home a Fredrik Andre Bjorkan cross. As the match wore on, Olympiacos began to show signs of resistance, seeking a crucial away goal to take back to Greece for the return leg.

Despite their efforts, Olympiacos were consistently thwarted by Bodo/Glimt's excellent defending. A notable example was Fredrik Sjovold's incredible last-ditch tackle on the hour mark, which prevented a potential Greek goal. As the match drew to a close, Olympiacos's energy waned, leaving them facing a daunting task in the return leg. They will need a remarkable turnaround to recover from this disappointing defeat in northern Norway.
