Ronaldo Reacts to Hojlund's 'SIIUU' Celebration: 'It's an Honor'

Cristiano Ronaldo has praised Denmark's Rasmus Hojlund for mimicking his iconic 'SIIUU' celebration, saying it's 'an honor'. Hojlund revealed that Ronaldo is his idol and scoring against him was a 'huge' moment. The two teams face off again on Sunday in the Nations League quarter-final return leg.

Cristiano Ronaldo has weighed in on Rasmus Hojlund's decision to mimic his iconic “SIIUU” celebration. Speaking on Saturday, just a day before Portugal's Nations League quarter-final return leg against Denmark, Ronaldo addressed the incident.

Ronaldo was unfazed by Hojlund's actions, stating, “It's no problem for me. I know it wasn't out of disrespect.” The Portuguese star acknowledged that he's flattered by the homage, adding, “It is not only him who makes my jubilant scene around the world.” This reaction suggests that Ronaldo views Hojlund's celebration as a nod to his influence, rather than a sign of disrespect.

Cristiano Ronaldo addressed the Danish media ahead of Sunday's match, sharing his thoughts on Rasmus Hojlund's decision to mimic his iconic “SIIUU” celebration. Ronaldo displayed his characteristic confidence and humility, saying, “I'm smart enough to understand that. For me, it is an honor. I hope to do it in front of him tomorrow (Sunday). It will be good. I'm glad he likes my cheering scene. It will be another match.”

Ronaldo also reflected on Portugal's previous match against Denmark, acknowledging that the Danish team had outperformed them. However, he emphasized that Portugal has put the loss behind them and is focused on the upcoming match. “Denmark was far better than us on Thursday, but we have put it behind us and looking forward to another match,” Ronaldo noted.

When asked about his celebration, Rasmus Hojlund explained the reasoning behind his actions:

Rasmus Hojlund revealed that his decision to mimic Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic “SIIUU” celebration was a tribute to his idol. “It's for my idol. It wasn't because I wanted to mock him or anything. He has been so important to me and my football career. It might be a bit ambivalent, but to score against him and Portugal, that's huge,” Hojlund explained.

Hojlund's admiration for Ronaldo dates back to 2009, when he watched the Portuguese star score a stunning free kick in a live match. “I remember him scoring a free kick in 2009, when I was in the stadium to watch the match, and since then I have been a huge Cristiano fan,” Hojlund recalled. Denmark will face Portugal in the return leg of their Nations League quarter-final on Sunday evening.
