Rugby World Cup 2027: Sydney Announced as Host for Final Match
Sydney's Olympic Stadium has been confirmed as the host venue for the 2027 Rugby World Cup final, with the tournament set to take place in Australia from October 1 to November 13.
The 2027 men's Rugby World Cup final will be held in Sydney, World Rugby announced on Thursday, as it unveiled the official draw for the tournament, which will be hosted by Australia. World Rugby chair Brett Robinson expressed his delight at reaching another significant milestone, saying, “We are delighted to reach another significant milestone on our journey to Men's Rugby World Cup 2027.”
According to local media reports, the final will take place at the Sydney Olympic Stadium, a venue with a seating capacity of 80,000 that was purpose-built for the 2000 Olympics. Sydney previously hosted the World Cup final in 2003, when Australia suffered a heartbreaking loss to England in a thrilling match that went to extra-time.
Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh, who played for the Wallabies in that 2003 game, welcomed the opportunity for the current generation of players to experience the excitement of playing a home final. Waugh stated, “I am delighted this generation of Wallabies will have the privilege of experiencing the emotion, excitement and joy of pulling on the gold jersey before our passionate fans at a Men's Rugby World Cup in our own backyard.”
