Ex-Barcelona Winger Aitor Ariño Signs for Füchse Berlin in Major Transfer Coup
Spanish handball star Aitor Ariño has joined Füchse Berlin on a contract until 2028, bolstering the German club's left-wing options after the departure of Jerry Tollbring and Manuel Štrlek.
Füchse Berlin, the German handball runners-up, have bolstered their left-wing options for the upcoming season by signing experienced Barcelona winger Aitor Ariño. The 32-year-old Spanish World and European Champion will form a dynamic duo with Tim Freihöfer, who is ten years his junior, on the left wing. Ariño, who has spent his entire career with FC Barcelona, has inked a contract that will keep him in Berlin until 2028.
Ariño expressed his excitement about joining Füchse Berlin and exploring a new chapter in his career. “I wanted to play in a different team again, and Germany is one of the best places to play handball. When the opportunity to move to Berlin came up, I wanted to take it,” he said. Ariño is eager to contribute to the team's success and compete at the highest level. “I'm looking forward to playing for a top team in the best league in the world. I want to grow with the club and win titles,” he added.
Füchse Berlin's decision to sign Aitor Ariño was driven by the need to find a suitable replacement for Jerry Tollbring, who will be leaving the team at the end of the season due to personal reasons. Additionally, the club opted not to extend Manuel Štrlek's contract, creating a void on the left wing that Ariño is now expected to fill.
Ariño brings a wealth of experience and success to Füchse Berlin, having enjoyed a illustrious career with Barcelona. His impressive trophy haul includes 13 Spanish championships and five Champions League titles. On the international stage, Ariño has made 89 appearances for Spain, winning the World Championship in 2013 and the European Championship in 2018 and 2020.
