Tom Pidcock secured his first win for Q36.5 with a summit finish victory on stage two of the Al-Ula Tour in Saudi Arabia, taking the overall lead in the process.
Tom Pidcock, the 25-year-old British cycling ace, secured his first win as a Q36.5 rider on the summit finish of stage two at the Al-Ula Tour in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Pidcock, a double Olympic mountain bike champion, made a decisive move to climb away from his rivals and claim victory on the 157.7km stage that finished on Bir Jaydah mountain.

Pidcock's win came after a team decision to target the stage, and he acknowledged that it was a great outcome, especially given that it was only his second stage with Q36.5. Pidcock had joined the Swiss second-tier team after leaving Ineos in the close season. “We said we'd try and win the stage,” Pidcock said after his victory. “I'm in a really good place, but after the winter, you don't know what shape you are really in.”

Pidcock's win has propelled him into the lead in the overall standings of the five-stage Al-Ula Tour. He acknowledged that the final 200 meters of the stage were particularly challenging but expressed his excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead. “The last 200m were tough, but now it's all to play for in the overall standings,” Pidcock said.
