Simeone Praises Atletico Madrid's New Signings After Seventh Consecutive Win
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone praised his team's summer signings for their successful adaptation, which has contributed to the team's seventh consecutive win across all competitions.
Atletico Madrid's impressive winning streak can be attributed to the successful integration of their summer signings, according to coach Diego Simeone. Following a resounding 5-0 victory over Real Valladolid on Saturday, which marked their seventh consecutive win across all competitions, Simeone expressed his satisfaction with the newcomers' adaptation to the team.
Atletico Madrid had endured a disappointing start to the season, winning only one out of six games despite investing heavily in reinforcements. The club had splurged over 200 million euros ($211.50 million) to bring in talented players like Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher, and Robin Le Normand, following a trophyless campaign. However, the recent winning streak suggests that the new signings are finally starting to gel with the rest of the team.
It has been a month since Atletico Madrid's last defeat, a 1-0 league loss at Real Betis. Coach Diego Simeone believes that his team is now on the right track, with a solid game plan in place. “All teams need time,” Simeone explained during a press conference. “A month and a half ago, two months ago, we talked about the new guys needing to adapt to the team and how Atletico Madrid play because they all played differently in their (former) teams.”
Diego Simeone is pleased with the progress made by his new signings, who have taken time to adapt to the team's playing style. “The growth of (Clement) Lenglet, Gallagher, Julian, (Alexander) Sorloth and the hope of recovering Le Normand soon is giving us a good collective work,” he noted. The coach also reflected on the team's recent improvement, which he attributes to a turning point after their loss to Betis. “We lost a very bad game against Betis, where we were not recognisable. And I think that was the breakthrough of what has come from then on. We can win, lose or draw, but we have to be recognisable.”
Simeone was impressed with both his team's defence and attack, and he hopes to carry this momentum into their Copa del Rey match against Cacereno in the second round on Thursday.
“Defensively we are doing well, which gives us a plus, and offensively we also have a position that gives us attacking options, speed, inside play, aerial play, counter-attacking, and we have to keep going,” he said.
“The league is very long and we are looking forward to the Cup match, which will be tough like all single match ties, and we need to maintain the humility and commitment that the boys are showing.”
