Tragedy struck in Plateau State on November 9 when a mining site collapsed, claiming the lives of at least 13 people. Dr. Joshua Riti, Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area, confirmed the devastating news on November 11 in Jos. Riti expressed deep sadness over the loss of life, revealing that seven of the victims were from Bassa LGA.

The ill-fated mining site is situated at the boundaries of Bassa, Jos South, and Jos North Local Government Areas. This tragic incident highlights the risks and dangers associated with mining operations in the region. Plateau State is rich in natural resources, including minerals such as tin, columbite, lead, coal, clay, kaolin, marble, gemstone, barytes, and zinc.
