Japan ends Nigeria's Olympic hopes...


Japan defeats Nigeria's Super Falcons 3-1, advancing to Olympic knockout stages while ending Nigeria's campaign in Paris 2024 women's football.



The Super Falcons' Olympic journey came to a disappointing end with a 3-1 loss to Japan in their final Group C match at La Beaujoire Stadium in France, eliminating them from the 2024 Paris Olympics.


Japan dominated the match from the start, taking an early lead in the 22nd minute when Hamano Maika scored, assisted by Ueki Riko. They further extended their advantage in the 32nd minute with a goal from Tanaka Mina, putting them up 2-0.


Nigeria rallied towards the end of the first half, with Jennifer Echegini scoring in the 42nd minute, assisted by Christy Ucheibe, to reduce the deficit to 2-1. However, this was not enough to change the outcome of the match.


Japan continued to assert their control over the match, despite Nigeria's renewed efforts. In the dying moments of the game, Hikaru Kitagawa sealed Japan's win with a goal in the 45+5' minute, putting the final nail in Nigeria's coffin with a 3-1 scoreline.
