Family Denies Suicide Claims in Ex-Konga CEO's Death
Family Sets Record Straight on Nick Imudia's Passing
Family of former Konga CEO Nick Imudia refutes suicide claims, citing ongoing investigation into his sudden death. They condemn media's 'unprofessional' reporting and urge public to refrain from spreading false information.
The late Nick Imudia, the former CEO of Konga, a big online retailer, has refuted claims that he passed away by suicide.
The Family claims that even though SüicÃde had been ruled out, the cause of his death is still being investigated.
In a statement signed by Dr. Anthony N. Imudia, the family refuted reports that Imudia had given instructions to his brother and daughter prior to his death. The family said that the reporting of the news of the one-time Konga CEO's death while the family was in the hospital attempting to resuscitate him was suspicious.
“The family of Nick Imudia is unhappy with the unprofessional manner the media has wrongly characterised the reporting of Nick Imudia's death as Süicide. This is also supported by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police's office that has vowed to investigate the sudden death of Nick. Neither did Nick call his brother in America with instructions on how to distribute his wealth, nor placed a call to his daughter with any instructions.
“How come the news was reported so hastilly (less than 3 hours from his death) before his family members even knew about it and the medical team was still trying to resuscitate him at the hospital! The Imudia family wonders!”
The family further stated that the former Konga CEO hails from a close-knit family with lots of support.
“Nick never showed any sign of stress and he was not diagnosed as depressed at any point. The thought of suicide in the manner portrayed and hastilly reported by the news media is suspect. Nick Imudia, until his death was the Group CEO of D.light International with Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was residing. He managed the company's worldwide operations from Nairobi. Nick was full of life and people that worked closely with him or met him in the last hours prior to the incident surrounding his death were shocked with the media attributing his death to ‘suicide’.”
Following a quick journey to the Netherlands, he was on a quick visit to Lagos and was scheduled to return to Nairobi the day following his untimely death. Nick began his professional career with the Finnish telecommunications company Nokia. Later, he was sent from Helsinki to Singapore to oversee the Nokia Asia operations.
He was named the Managing Director of Nokia-West and Central Africa later in his career with the company. He chose to leave Nokia once it was acquired by Microsoft. Seeking a fresh challenge, he assumed the role of CEO of Konga Nigeria, where he implemented operational reengineering.
People who knew Nick well are all stunned by his death and reject the idea that he committed suicide, especially given his age and degree of accomplishment. The public and the media are asked to refrain from spreading false information about Nick's death so that his family can grieve without having to deal with any guilt.
