X Will Soon Begin Charging New Users To Post — Elon Musk Says
THE owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk, has announced that the service will charge new users for posting content.
In response to a post on Monday concerning the X policy on new accounts, he stated that it is the sole way to address the problem of bots on the network.
As per Musk's assertion, the abundance of fraudulent accounts takes up username space, making numerous quality handles unavailable.
“Unfortunately, a small fee for new user write access is the only way to curb the relentless onslaught of bots," Musk said.
“Current Al (and troll farms) can pass ‘are you a bot’ with ease.
“The onslaught of fake accounts also uses up the available namespace, so many good handles are taken as a result.”
In response to a different X account regarding the new guidelines, Musk stated that after three months, new users will be able to post for free.
Starting on October 17, 2023, X will charge new users in the Philippines and New Zealand $1 a year to access essential services like liking and replying to posts and tweeting.
“Reduce spam, manipulation of our platform, and bot activity” is the stated goal, according to the social media network.
Elon Musk declared on April 4 that genuine accounts would be suspended as part of a cleanup effort to remove bot accounts and trolls from the social media network.
Musk added that the business would track down the guilty parties and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
