Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made an astonishing claim from prison: he has connected his imprisonment to the recent upsurge in violence in the southeast of Nigeria.

When he is free again, he pledges to work toward putting an end to the present wave of violence in the southeast.

Kanu spoke to the court on Tuesday after a Federal High Court in Abuja denied him bail. He emphasized his position on crime and violence in the area.

“That, I will give an order in the East, who is the idiot that will counter it? Nobody can. I am Nnamdi Kanu. Rubbish!”

Kanu further said that anyone participating in violence in the name of IPOB will suffer consequences and that, should he be freed from detention, the area could return to peace in a matter of minutes.
