Sokoto: Abductors Contact Teacher, Demand Ransom — Police
The terrorists phoned Malam Liman Abubakar and sought a N20 million ransom for the children's release, our correspondent had previously been informed by a community source.
However, the public relations officer for the Sokoto State Police claimed that the terrorists had just made contact and requested a ransom—no figure was specified.
ASP Ahmad Rufai, our journalist over the phone, confirmed that the terrorists had gotten in touch with the Tsangaya school teacher and wanted a ransom—no figure specified—for their actions.
He stated that they abruptly ended the contact, claiming that the battery on their phone was dying.
16 people were abducted in the early hours of Saturday when suspected terrorists attacked Gidan Bakuso village in the Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The victims included 15 Almajiri youngsters and an elderly mother.
A police spokesperson pledged to deliver updates as soon as they become available.
