Ali Ndume, the chief whip for the Senate, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to withdraw orderlies who are attaced to both politicians and his colleagues in the National Assembly.

“I support that they should take away all their police (officer),” the Senator from Borno South Senatorial District said on Channels Television's Politics Today programme on Wednesday.

“One Senator will be going around with 10 policemen, seven, members of House of Reps, everybody. That is for those who are mobile. Some even give security to their wives, others give security to their children. I am against that.”

According to Ndume, Nigeria only has roughly 300,000 police officers, not enough to adequately police the nation; as a result, orderlies for Very Important People should be removed in order to protect the populace.

He let's have like 2 million police, 500k soldiers.

He pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to provide security services with the most money and weaponry possible so they can combat the threats of kidnapping, insurgency, and banditry.

Ndume suggested that the President authorize the police to augment their force to two million officers and the armed forces to 500,000 soldiers.

The senior member added that if state police is discussed during the constitutional amendment process, he will not support it because he believes governors will misuse it.
