Oyo Govt Begins Demolition Of Structures In Ibadan

The State Government of Oyo has started demolishing buildings along the 110-kilometer circular road corridor that runs through the state capital, Ibadan.

According to Williams Akin Funmilayo, Commissioner of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, the site was bought in 2016 and has been a part of the Ibadan Master Plan of Government since 1978.

He announced that the buildings now located in the Circular Road corridor would be demolished.

“That is why it is called Circular Road and will soon be commissioned by the Oyo State Government,” Funmilayo said, elaborating on the circular road's approximately four phases: the Lagos-Ibadan, Ife-Ibadan, Ibadan-Ife, and Ilorin-Ibadan corridors.

The Commissioner claims that because inhabitants along the corridors were informed prior to the exercise starting, it is not a spontaneous action.

The Commissioner cautioned those wishing to purchase land to always confirm the land's authenticity at the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development before purchasing the land sellers and speculators, adding that structures with approved documentation would be counted and fairly compensated.
