The Okuama settlement in Delta State's Ughelli South Local Government Area, where sixteen soldiers lost their lives, has been completely demolished.

There are serious claims that the atrocity may have been committed by some enraged soldiers following the deaths of their colleagues.

The killers are still being sought after, and soldiers under the command of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army's Sixth Division, have made several arrests.

The soldiers who have been policing the creeks are rumored to have taken revenge, therefore residents of the coastal village are supposed to have fled to nearby Ughelli.
