Bodies discovered In Haitian suburb, Third Week Of Gang Violence
Amidst gang violence, 14 bodies were discovered in a Haitian suburb
An AFP correspondent stated that following an attack by gang members who have been ravaging the nation for weeks, fourteen dead were discovered on Monday in a suburb of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
The wealthy area of Petion-Ville has been under siege by what locals said to be armed criminals since early Monday, although they did not know the exact circumstances of the killings, they told AFP.
Witnesses claimed that local residences, a petrol station, and a bank were targeted by gang members.
Well-armed militants have been invading Haiti for the past two weeks, claiming they want to overthrow Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
In response to pressure from the US and neighboring Caribbean nations, Henry last week agreed to resign in order to facilitate the establishment of an interim administration.
The UN organization for children, UNICEF, gave a dismal assessment of the situation in Haiti on Sunday, comparing it to a scene from “Mad Max” and warning that people were suffering from “famine and malnutrition” while relief workers were unable to reach the affected areas.
The Ouest department, which includes Port-au-Prince, implemented a curfew on Sunday that would last until Wednesday. On April 3, the state of emergency will end.
Diplomatic staff have been evacuated from Haiti as a result of the crisis by a number of nations, including the US and EU members.
